Have something
to say?

Then we want to hear from you.

All Tech students, staff, faculty, and Blacksburg residents are invited to share thoughtful, insightful commentary on anything relevant to the Blacksburg and Virginia Tech community.

Should I submit?

Do you have opinions about what’s happening in town or at Virginia Tech? Is there an issue that you feel isn’t being discussed and deserves some attention?

Then yes, you should submit those thoughts to our Commentary section as a letter to the editor. Please note that we are not necessarily asking for promotional or otherwise self-serving articles.

How do I submit?

Simply send your letter to editor@thepylon.org. Please attach your letter as a Microsoft Word document or Google Doc.

We also ask that you pass along a photo headshot of yourself to be included in the article. If you do not have a photo, let us know and we will send a photographer to take your photo. If you have other photographs or illustrations you’d like embedded in your letter, please send those as well.

In your email, please identify yourself with your grade and major (if you are a student) or your occupation/job title (if you are not a student), and your hometown. You may also include any other pertinent info relevant for readers of The Pylon to know as they read your letter, such as any clubs or organizations you may be a part of.

The Pylon is Blacksburg’s newest digital publication that specializes in investigative and long form pieces, informed commentaries, and submission-based creative works. We are an independent publication that covers local stories and provides an outlet for community voices with quality in mind.

The Commentary section seeks to entertain original, well-researched perspectives on relevant and interesting ideas pertinent to the university and the surrounding communities.
